Just say No Toxic Chemical Cleaning Products!
Many home cleaning products available today contain carcinogens such as formaldehyde, nitrobenzene, methylene chloride, and napthelene. It's shocking that these cancer causing toxins and chemicals are present in so many cleaning products today! Also present are reproductive toxins, hormone disruptors and other ingredients that cause liver, kidney and brain damage, allergies and asthma.
Save some money and your health! Here are some great household cleaning recipes. Enjoy and let us know what you think!
All Purpose Cleaner – Mix ½ cup vinegar and ¼ cup of baking soda and ¼ cup of borax into a ½ Gallon (2 liters) of water. Store and keep in container or spray bottle. You may wish to add 10 - 15 drops of your favorite essential oil. Lavender, Lemon, Mint, Tea Tree or Rosemary are lovely. Use on countertops, bath fixtures, windows, shower stall ect.
Toilet Bowl Cleaner – Mix ¼ cup of baking soda and 1 cup of vinegar in plastic tub, already headed for the recycle bin. Let it foam then pour it on your toilet brush.
Then scrub away ! If you have some stubborn stains…put ½ cup of borax directly in your toilet bowl. Scrub and don’t flush for a couple hours.
Natural Mold and Mildew Removal Spray.
Tea tree oil is expensive, but a little goes a long way.
It can be used on anything with mold or mildew.
Note that the smell of tea tree oil is very strong but will disappear in a day or so, and is non-toxic.
Combine 2 teaspoons of tea tree oil with 2 cups of water.
Mix in a spray bottle, shake and spray onto any problem areas.
Do not rinse.
Air Freshener – Please re think using plug in, spray aerosols and scented paraffin candles. All of these items may smell nice but are made of toxic chemicals.
Keep a couple small bowls of vinegar around. Vinegar absorbs cooking smells and tobacco smoke. Simmer a pot of cinnamon sticks, allspice or cloves. Smells heavenly! A bowl full of Lavender blossoms, Cedarwood chips or Balsam Fir Pine shavings are wonderful in bedrooms, closets or bathrooms. Burn only natural wax candles like soy, coconut or beeswax. Make sure they have non lead wicks. Having houseplants helps too.
